Days go by

the morning goodbye
Every morning of the week we say goodbye to John as he goes off to work. Rocky watches as he goes. I give a kiss and then busy myself with the kids and breakfast. He turns his back and walks to his freezing car and drives away. He misses us. Last night words and phrases like "everyday" and "no end in sight" and "jealous of you" were said. Even as I type this tears are springing up. He wants to be with us, he hears of the things we do and he wants to play. He likes his job. We know and accept the roles each of us decided together to have for ourselves. But sometimes the day in and day out of it is hard. I want to step out of the rat race. To go live on a farm and live off of the land. To make things, for John to have a wood shop and a potters wheel. To not NEED so much. I was inspired by this post at The Organic Sister. Maybe I could show it to John and WE could come up with a 5 year plan so he could spend more time home. I believe that we can have anything we want. We just need to plan and prioritize. OK the tears are gone now and I've typed my way into inspiration and motivation. Off to my day now. Breakfast. Bible. Dress up with the kids.(thanks Lorrie or the new clothes!!)Art. and whatever else comes up. Happy Thursday to you.

I used to wish my husband could be home with us more until he lost his job in Oct. Now, not so much lol.

We are working on our own plan of moving to an area with land and space. Living off the land may be an option but living more simply has become a reality.

I recently read A Plain Life, it is slow, like the lifestyle, but it inspired me even more.

My heart aches just reading this...I want to be home more too. I just told Ron yesterday I wanted to sell the house, quit my job and move to the mountains.

Beautiful pic, by the way...

I would feel the same way as John. Most of us would. Even though everyone has a "role" they play, it has to be very hard. It is hard going to work everyday, while the significant other stays at home. Don't get me wrong... your job is equally as important...but it is just hard any way you look at it. sorry girlie. I guess thats life, right? lol...

Side note:

If you guys do decide to live like the amish, can you help me build a cool little barn house on the side of your house for me, my kitties and whatever current boyfriend i have at the time? That would be cool.... oh and can i keep my cell phone?? :) love you.

From both sides, I know how you guys feel!
It's interesting, Jeff and I just recently put together a five year plan. I loved the link you provided, it's helpful.
Here's to supporting each other in our five year plans.

those are the hard conversations.....but they are also the most honest and the ones that can spark a change or a new way of thinking about things. i stumbled upon the organic sister the other day by accident and DID show mike her post - so off we are on a 5 year plan.....who knew there were so many people that wanted to move to the country and thrive? maybe we need a commune!!!

just this morning i plopped back in bed after unsuccessfully trying to wake aidan up for school and said, "i hate that he has to go to school. i hate that you have to go to work. i just want us all to stay home together." i so get you on this. great post. we're eight months into our five year plan. here's to hoping it works.

What a beautiful photo. Justin expresses his frustration all the time; it was a big motivator behind our "plan". Thanks for linking me. I hope you guys can come up with a plan too. It certainly helps get us thru the ins and outs of life knowing we are working *towards* something now. :)

we are self-employed and work at home together (and homeschool our two boys), so i just want to say - it can be done! (and we live in a barn house!)

when we set off on this path, most of our friends said "why are you doing this? why do you want to work so hard? come have fun with us!" family members said it was too risky and we should just get "real" jobs.

it is a great life. you have to choose it deliberately and work for it relentlessly, but it is very doable. you can do it!
