Nia

I love to dance. I get a high from it. Put a good song on and I'm transported to another place, I get goosebumps and sometimes even cry a little if I'm really in the moment. Now usually my dancing is done only with the kids or by myself, I'm pretty sure I'm not that great a dancer in technical terms, but I make up for it in passion. Anyway I went to my first NIA dance class yesterday. Haven't heard of Nia? It's a hybrid of modern dance, martial arts, and the healing arts (sometimes tai chi, or yoga, or something else that I can't remember right now). It was fun. I was a little nervous about being able to let go and just dance and enjoy myself. I was afraid I would get all hung up and freeze and be all self conscious, but I didn't. It was great. The focus this week was on our neck so lots of the movements involved letting our neck and head release and relax. The best part about the whole thing was I got to dance for 50 minutes with no interruptions, just moving and feeling and leaving feeling like I was as light as a feather.

Good for you! I love to dance, too (studied when I was younger)...yet rarely allow myself the joy of it. I think that needs to change... ;) Happy Thanksgiving, Heather!
