My sister Heidi brought us a school desk yesterday. She probably thought since I was homeschooling the kids and all we'd use it to sit in and do schooly type things. But my vision involes a book and coffee and putting my head down to rest while the kids muddy themselfs in the yard. I love this little desk, with it's pretty blue chair, and it's wire basket underneath. I love how it looks sitting under our tree. I know the kids will use it to stand on so they can climb onto the tree and peak over the fence into the neighbors yard. Rocky will use it to climb up and stand on the desk and scream, arms raise in victory like he's climbed a mountain or something. Stella no doubt will use it as a stage for her dolls. Now I don't know any school that would allow so much fun to be had with their school desks, except for ours. Our backyard school of mud and trees, of birds and bee stings. The kids asked if we could play school with the desk, as we were all climbling all over it yesterday, I said "sure" and then raised my arms up and yelled "freedom" the kids laughed and threw their arms up and yelled "freedom". And I FELT free. Sitting in this little blue school desk in our backyard, free of all the stuff we don't want for our family. Free to just live how we choose when we choose. To educate in freedom, for us it is what we want more than anything and so far it works for us. Thanks for the school chair Heidi, it's my new favorite thing.
