Grateful Friday

1. John came back late last night. He was gone for the week on business. I don't know how single moms do it. Luckily I have great friends and family who helped me out.

2. I'm grateful that Gretchen actually knows how to use the jumper cables in her car saving me from being late for an appointment.

3. Getting to watch the sweetest little girl wake up. I love those few moments where they are still drifting in and out. Once Stella is fully awake, the first thing she usually does is get a little smile on her face.

4. Taking my mom to lunch for her 60th birthday. She is an amazing woman, happy birthday mom.

5. John bringing the kids and me the cutest t-shirt from his trip. He has good taste when it comes to cute t-shirts.

6. This woman. She is Ruth my midwife for both Jack and Rocky. I had my last appointment with her on Tuesday. I didn't want to leave the cozy birth center and her warm office. I hugged her and Alethea her assistant/doula and drove away heavy hearted knowing I was leaving a whole part of my life experience behind. My life changed in the presence of these women and in that building.

7. Thinking about looking into what it takes to be a doula. I know it takes a lot, and I know now isn't the best time, but as I drove away from the birth center I felt like I belonged there helping other women give birth the way I did. I have never really had an urge to do one thing or another as far a a career is concerned, but I think I might now. We'll see what happens.

8. When I step out into our backyard or the front street and look all the way around me I can see mountains. They are foothills and Mt. Diablo is one of them. I'm sure it's the biggest one but I'm not for sure.

9. Red Hot Chili Peppers "Stadium Arcadium" I love these 2 CD's, can't stop listening to them.

10. Kissing Rockys sweet soft tummy and neck.

I love the photo of your midwife. I don't know how I'm going to go the rest of my life without seeing mine. :)

I also miss my midwife. She moved to Hawaii.
Hey, I'm considering becoming a lactation consultant one day. Maybe we can do something together...you catch 'em, I'll teach 'em how to nurse. Glad you made it through the week...

That's a great picture of Stella -- she looks so solemn and dreamy.

And I like your new blog home, BTW -- I love your banner -- the look on Rocky's face is so sweet & funny!

I think Stella looks like Rocky in that picture.
Great thankful list.

I love your thoughts on being a doula. I had one natural and one c-section and I felt so strongly about empowering women to go the natural route that I've often felt it may be a new career path for me. Such an important job.

What a wonderful family you have and sounds like things are all going so well. It is so demanding being a mom though. But oh so rewarding!

Best,

Vickie

This is a beautiful list- I think you'd make a wonderful doula. My MIL worked at a birthing center for years and speaks very fondly of her experiences. Even though Alex was a child he remembers being on her back as she helped bring life into this world. I think it's very beautiful + profound.
